Peptide property modeling by Cluj indices.

The novel Cluj property indices are used for modeling the biological properties of dipeptides: the ACE inhibition activity of a set of 58 dipeptides and the bitter tasting activity of a set of 48 dipeptides, taken from the literature. The results are compared to those reported in some previous works.

Fragment-similarity-based QSAR (FS-QSAR) algorithm for ligand biological activity predictions.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) studies are useful computational tools often used in drug discovery research and in many scientific disciplines. In this study, a robust fragment-similarity-based QSAR (FS-QSAR) algorithm was developed to correlate structures with biological activities by integrating fragment-based drug design concept and a multiple linear regression method. S...

Estimating probabilities of diabetes mellitus using neural networks.

Classification problems are often encountered in medical diagnosis. This paper presents an introduction to classification theory and shows how artificial neural networks can be used for classification. We also map out a bootstrapped procedure for interval estimation of posterior probabilities. The entire procedure is illustrated using the diabetes mellitus data in Pima Indians.

Building on a solid foundation: SAR and QSAR as a fundamental strategy to reduce animal testing.

The development of more efficient, ethical, and effective means of assessing the effects of chemicals on human health and the environment was a lifetime goal of Gilman Veith. His work has provided the foundation for the use of chemical structure for informing toxicological assessment by regulatory agencies the world over. Veith's scientific work influenced the early development of the SAR model...

New QSAR prediction models derived from GPCR CB2-antagonistic triaryl bis-sulfone analogues by a combined molecular morphological and pharmacophoric approach.

In order to build quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models for virtual screening of novel cannabinoid CB2 ligands and hit ranking selections, a new QSAR algorithm has been developed for the cannabinoid ligands, triaryl bis-sulfones, using a combined molecular morphological and pharmacophoric search approach. Both pharmacophore features and shape complementarity were considered...

QSAR models for reproductive toxicity and endocrine disruption in regulatory use – a preliminary investigation†

A special challenge in the new European Union chemicals legislation, Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, will be the toxicological evaluation of chemicals for reproductive toxicity. Use of valid quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) is a possibility under the new legislation. This article focuses on a screening exercise by use of our own and commercial QSAR ...
